Dragon Lights, Knoxville’s first-ever Chinese lantern festival, will take place in the Midway at Chilhowee Park from Mar. 16 – Apr. 22, 2018. Featuring 42 larger-than-life lantern displays each with thousands of light components, the displays are constructed onsite by dozens of Chinese artisans who travel across the world to keep this century old tradition alive. Created by hand with silk fabric stretched over steel frames, these expertly crafted lanterns embody tradition as the artisans pass their skills from one generation to the next.
Knoxville’s Dragon Lights Festival is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly, with optimal viewing beginning around 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices will range from $10 to $16. Discounted tickets are available for military, seniors, students, and groups. (Discounts are be subject to date restrictions). Event parking is available on-site and is free of charge.
Dragon Lights Festival will light up Chilhowee Park & Exposition Center with 42 larger-than-life illuminated displays crafted by Chinese artisans. The of artisans hail from Zigong, Sichuan, China’s cultural capital for the ancient art of lantern-making.
In addition to lanterns, nightly performances, and handicrafts, the event will also offer food and beverages. The menu includes a variety of food, as well as assorted beverages.
Sunday - Thursday: Stage Performances: 6:30 PM & 8:00 PM
Friday & Saturday: 6:30 PM, 8:00 PM, & 9:30 PM
Performances are included in festival admission.

IS DRAGON LIGHTS FESTIVAL APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN?
Yes! All ages will enjoy this event, and children under the age of three do not require a ticket.
IS THIS AN INDOOR OR OUTDOOR EVENT?
This is an outdoor event. Dragon Lights Festival takes place in the Midway at Chilhowee Park and spans over 17 acres.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS OR INCLEMENT WEATHER?
Dragon Lights festival is a rain or shine event. Please be aware that we may close if inclement weather such as lightning, hail, or strong winds become an issue.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc. festivals are outdoor events and will periodically encounter inclement weather conditions. Festivals are subject to cancellation or postponements. In cases of cancellation or postponements, tickets will be honored on any remaining festival date. Refunds are not offered when inclement weather forces the cancellation or postponement of the festival.
CAN I BUY TICKETS AT THE EVENT?
While tickets can be purchased at the event, we recommend that your purchase them ahead of time to avoid long lines. You may purchase tickets in person at the Civic Coliseum Box Office Monday – Friday from 10 am until 5pm. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster. Please note that there will be additional fees when purchasing tickets online.
DO I NEED TO PRINT MY TICKETS IF PURCHASED ONLINE?
We recommend that you print your online tickets. While we can scan your e-tickets through your cell phone at the event, some cell phones present scanning challenges.
WHAT DOES MY TICKET ADMISSION INCLUDE?
All tickets include admission to view the lantern displays and live performances. Other activities and food/beverage must be purchased separately.
HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS?
There will be a box office that the event entrance which will open at 5:30 pm each day. While tickets can be purchased there, we recommend that your purchase them ahead of time to avoid long lines. You may purchase tickets in person at the Civic Coliseum Box Office Monday – Friday from 10 am until 5 pm. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster. Please note that there will be additional fees when purchasing tickets online.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE? DO I HAVE TO STAY THE ENTIRE TIME?
While Dragon Lights Festival opens at 5:30 p.m. each night, optimal viewing begins around 7:30 p.m. as the sun begins to set. If you do arrive before sunset, rest assured that our lanterns are still beautiful in the sunlight! Additionally, you will be able to witness artisans creating traditional Chinese art as well as exciting performances on the main stage. There is still plenty to do before the sun goes down! You are welcome to arrive anytime you'd like! (Please note, however, that our Box Office will close at 9:00 p.m. each night.)
CAN I BRING OUTSIDE FOOD/DRINK INTO THE FESTIVAL?
No outside food or drinks will be allowed into the festival. A concessions area will have food and drinks available for purchase.
WHICH ITEMS ARE PROHIBITED AT THE FESTIVAL?
Please do not bring the following onto the grounds: outside food & beverages, coolers, chewing tobacco, illegal drugs, controlled substances, weapons or objects that could be used as weapons, bikes, roller skates, skateboards, or other carry-ins as determined by event management.
CAN I BRING MY LEASHED DOG TO THE FESTIVAL?
Unfortunately, no. Pets are not permitted at Dragon Lights Festival. Service Dogs, however, are permitted.
IF I CANNOT ATTEND, CAN I GET A REFUND FOR MY TICKETS?
Sorry, but we do not offer refunds for unused tickets.
DO YOU OFFER GROUP DISCOUNTS?
Absolutely! We offer a discount on advance purchase tickets for groups of more than 15 people. Group tickets can only be purchased at the Civic Coliseum Box Office, which is open Monday – Friday from 10am until 5pm.
Also we offer Me + 3 online – 4 tickets at a discounted $50 * does not include Ticketmaster fees, see tickets below.
WHAT ARE THE HOURS FOR THE EVENT?
This event is open 7 days a week from 5:30pm until 10:00pm.
WHEN DO THE PERFORMANCES TAKE PLACE?
Several performances will take place every night. On weeknights (Monday - Thursday), performances will be at 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. On weekends (Friday - Sunday), the performances will be at 6:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9:30 p.m.
CAN I RE-ENTER THE FESTIVAL ON THE SAME DAY IF I LEAVE?
We do not allow re-entry into the festival.
WILL FOOD AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?
Yes. We will have several locations throughout the festival where food and beer can be purchased.

CAN I TOUCH THE LANTERNS?
We ask that you do not touch the lantern displays. Our lanterns are hand-crafted by Chinese artisans and built using hundreds of pieces of silk. Since the lanterns are large works of art, we will have rope lines around the exhibits for protection. While our guests can get close to the exhibits, we ask you to stay behind the rope lines and not to touch or climb on the lanterns. We WILL, however, have some lanterns near the entrance that you CAN touch!
CAN I PHOTOGRAPH THE LANTERNS?
Absolutely! Take as many photos as you like! We will provide free wi-fi and encourage you to snap and post to your heart's content! SPEAKING of snaps... those of you on Snapchat can use our Dragon Lights Geofilter! Don't forget to add #DragonLights to ALL your social media posts of the event!
HOW ACCESSIBLE IS DRAGON LIGHTS FESTIVAL FOR GUESTS WITH DISABILITIES?
While we do not have wheelchairs for our guests, most of our lantern exhibits are surrounded by blacktop surfaces. You are more than welcome to bring standard wheelchairs or handicap scooters for guests in need of assistance, but we can not guaranty that the entire event will be accessible.We will also have limited parking spaces near the front gate to the show available on a first-come, first-served basis to guests with state-issued disabled parking or disabled Veteran parking license plates.
CAN I SMOKE AT THIS EVENT?
No smoking is permitted.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO SEE ALL THE LANTERN DISPLAYS?
The event features 42 lantern displays which are on 17 acres of land. The time it takes to see all the lanterns depends on your pace.
WILL AUTOMATIC TELLERS BE AVAILABLE AT THE FESTIVAL?
Yes, we will have ATMs available at the event.
WILL WE BE LIGHTING AND RELEASING LANTERNS AT THE FESTIVAL ?
No. Our large, handcrafted lantern displays will remain where they are.
Tickets are available online, at the Civic Coliseum Box Office, or at the event. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance to avoid waiting in potentially long lines.
